Summer 2019


Summer is almost here!!! You can do it!

MAY

Only 3 Days - 3 Hours a Day - LEARN NEW SKILLS

Want to learn how to use a professional power washer? We will be power washing the church sidewalks and entry ways, and working to make our grounds more hospitable to our community guests.

* bring a water bottle, wear closed toe shoes, sunscreen and a hat / sunglasses!
* you must come ready to LEARN NEW SKILLS 
* each day we'll provide something cold and sweet AND have extra bottles of water for everyone



Sunday Mornings - Youth Class 9:45 am
ONE WORSHIP SERVICE AT 11:00 AM

SUNDAYS AFTER CHURCH WE SERVE
* wear or bring work clothes on Sundays to change in to - we will be helping serve our new Family Restoration Ministry clean out, up and upfit new spaces in the Berrier Building and downstairs hallway
- some days we will have other service projects - details will be posted and sent out the Wednesday before!

(you only need $$ for concessions at the park and a chair or blanket)

10:00 am - 7:00 pm - HGUMC Church Parking Lot
You will be responsible for purchasing your own ticket. If you buy them ahead of time online, they are less expensive.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL WEEK

* let Ms. Gretchen know if you can help out this year!
We will be going to lunch together after. Bring @ $10-15 for lunch. Back by 1:30 pm.

Tubing in Helen, GA
Cost $8 - Will also need to bring money for lunch in Helen
(long ride takes 2 to 2.5 hours)



Sunday Morning Schedule will stay the same. After church we serve. Service opportunities will be sent out the Wednesday before

Learn about our Refugee Community here in Atlanta, how they differ from immigrants, and what kinds of issues they face. We will also have the opportunity to serve in various volunteer spaces.

Our time together this month is a time of celebrating what is good and hopeful in our community! 

Here's our May schedule. It's a little weird, but we'll fall into our new summer schedule in June!

This Sunday is Cinco de Mayo!
Stay after church for lunch and cake! It's  Anthony's 18th Birthday (Friday) and Sophia's 13th Birthday (Saturday)- there will be CAKE!!
no youth activities after lunch, there is an Administrative Council Meeting

This SundayPALM SUNDAY - Last Confirmation Class (everyone needs to be present)
12:00-2:00 PM – Getting ready for Easter Morning – Youth are invited to lead the Sunrise Service and an Easter Call to Worship (reading at all services) – We will work on these during our youth time on Sunday
NO WEDNESDAY NIGHT BIBLE STUDY NEXT WEEK (April 17) – HOLY WEEK – there will be a prayer service at 6:30 pm in Pollard Hall if you’d like to come
MAUNDY THURSDAY SERVICE – (APRIL 18) @6:30 pm Sanctuary

APRIL 20 - SATURDAY – KRISPY KREME FUND-RAISER / COMMUNITY EGG HUNT! Youth there 8:00 -11:30

Participants Needed: (3) Selling Donuts at a time, Jumpie and Craft volunteers
YOUTH CAMPUS-WIDE EGG HUNT BEGINS AT 11:30 PM (after the children leave) – bring $5 and we’ll order pizza after our hunt! Pick up at 1:00 pm

Happy Spring!

Ahhh.... I know the truth! 

HAPPY SPRING! I know you're all crazy busy with school, sports, plays, music, etc. So, here's some info to help you calendar some much needed time with your youth group!

The school year is winding down and I know there are lots of exciting end-of-school events. Please let me know when your games, concerts, etc. are so I can invite others to come and support you!



Sundays in March

9:45 - 10:30 am - Sunday School led by Brent Hoffman and Anna Pilarte

9:30 - 10:30 am - Confirmation in the Conference Room

March 24 - What's TED got to do with it? and Outdoor Team Games

March 31 - No AFTER CHURCH ACTIVITIES - Spring Break
No Wednesday night small group during spring break

9:30 - 10:30 am - Confirmation in the Conference Room

April 7 - DESTINATION UNKNOWN - will leave after lunch, wear comfortable shoes

HGUMC Easter Egg Hunt

We will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts, coffee and other beverages for our guest as a fund-raiser! All proceeds go toward youth summer activities! I need everyone to participate in some way. It will take all of us! (I will talk to you soon about pre-selling donuts as well.)

Welcome 2019




Welcome to 2019! It's time to shake things up a bit and invite adventure back into our lives as Christian teens. Who says being Christian can't be fun!? 


Wednesday Nights: 
Winter Small Group: Can I Ask That? Hard Questions about God and Faith
6:00 – 7:00 pm Youth Room
Led by Debbie Carlton and Brent Hoffman

January Sunday ACT 12:00 - 2:00 pm
13     No Program - Come to church and stay for lunch together in Pollard Hall (There is an           Administrative Council Meeting that will involve a few of us)

20     Calling ALL PARENTS AND YOUTH! We need to have a time after lunch to discuss       VERY important youth ministry events, opportunities and general information - please try  to fit this meeting in your schedule!

27  Lunch after church - Program: Fun Fly RC in the Berrier Building: Ken Lightner will bring his hover crafts and remote control toys! 

SERVICE OPPORTUNITY - 3:00-5:00 PM MEAL PACKING WITH ACTION MINISTRY
(space for 12 - all participants get a T-Shirt) - I, Debbie will be out that Sunday due to an out of town gymnastics meet. I will need parents or other adults to drive the van and transport the youth to  the East Atlanta Action Ministry Warehouse. You will need to wear comfortable clothes and meet in the church parking lot at 2:00 pm. 


FEBRUARY - RETREAT
ReCapture: Adventure! FEB.22-24
Join us for evening bonfires, challenging games and conversation! Our guest co-retreat leader will be Ex-Special Ops Marine, extreme sportsman, theologian, Dad of a teenage son, and new partner in ministry at Harmony Grove UMC - Nathan Smith.

Youth Retreat to Collinswood on Lake Oconee
20 Spaces - Let Debbie know ASAP if you'd like to go!
Cost: $70.00 
(Adult Chaperons go FREE - I need a dad or two, and a few to help cook our own meals!)


CONFIRMATION 2019 - CLASSES WILL BE TAUGHT ON SUNDAY MORNINGS DURING THE SUNDAY SCHOOL HOUR

you must be in 6th grade or higher to participate due to the teaching content 
9:45-10:30 AM Leaders are Debbie Carlton, Bonnie Knowlton,  and Jim Landis
